An Introduction to EVE Online
EVE Online has been around for 5 years now. Having won numerous awards, and with over 220,000 active players, this quirky space-based massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) has proved a huge success. Boasting a single, shared universe, in which all logged in players appear, EVE Online has also set the records for the maximum number of simultaneous users logged in at any one time.
Obviously compared to the 10 million plus player base of World of Warcraft, EVE Online is tiny – but look at those figures again. Blizzard are a gaming powerhouse, with a string of established titles already in place to provide a rich environment – and lots of development cash.
EVE Online was developed by a group of graphics artists in Iceland who longed for the immersive exploration and combat of classic like Elite on the BBC Model B micro. For them to build a company, then a game – let alone one that has lastest 5 years – is no mean feat. It’s clear that EVE Online will be around for a lot longer, with constant expansions and new content being added.
Maybe now is the time you took up a 14 day free trial and sampled the delights of EVE Online for yourself?
